Our researchers at the Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute - QEERI, have developed a decentralized wastewater treatment system that could reduce treatment energy consumption by up to 50% while enabling the safe reuse of water for urban greening, landscaping, and agriculture. Led by Dr. Jayaprakash Saththasivam, the CURES (Circular Decentralized Systems for Urban Wastewater Treatment, Reuse, and Soil Enrichment) project integrates advanced biological treatment technologies, living wall systems, and biochar-based materials to transform wastewater and organic waste into valuable resources. The research supports Qatar's water security, circular economy, and sustainability ambitions while contributing to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
