Ireland is emerging as a test case for how countries can attract AI investment without placing additional strain on national grids. Over the weekend, The Wall Street Journal reported on Ireland’s “Bring Your Own Power” and, as part of that coverage, Ian Whitfield, Chief Technology Officer at Pure DC, outlined our approach in Dublin. Our new campus will operate with its own on-site microgrid, powered by biomethane. Alongside developing Europe’s first data centre microgrid, Pure DC has demonstrated that gas-connected data centres can be decarbonised at operational scale through large-scale biomethane transfers. This approach offers a practical pathway to lower operational emissions while longer-term energy solutions continue to develop. In 2025, we procured over 12 GWh of Irish biomethane, and are working to further develop partnerships with Irish producers in 2026. Our biomethane procurement strategy is designed to build a balanced portfolio that provides long-term security and credibility. In the near term, this requires a diversified supply across Irish, UK and EU sources to ensure resilience and deliverability. We are now Europe’s first, and only, DC company to be decarbonising operations across both electricity and gas grids through wind, solar and biomethane. #DataCentres #AIInfrastructure #DigitalInfrastructure | AVK-SEG | Yusuf Khan
