Applications are now open for Assistant Secretary - Infrastructure Development and Emergency, Resilience and Operations Policy, Department of Defence Ireland. The Department of Defence was established by the Ministers and Secretaries Act 1924 and comprises both civil and military elements. The mission of the Department is to support the Minister through relevant policy advice and implementation, efficient and effective use of resources and management of defence provision for Ireland. Reporting to the Secretary General, the Head of Infrastructure Development and Emergency, Resilience and Operations Policy has responsibility for four distinct areas: • Office of Emergency Planning • Property Management Branch • National Operations Policy • Civil Defence The person appointed will have: • A proven track record of achievement as a senior leader in a large, complex organisation, including managing operational issues, leading large projects, leading change and delivering performance improvements in business-critical operational areas. • An in-depth knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire same) of the defence sector, its operations and its role in the provision of emergency planning services, civil defence and support to the State as an aid to the civil power and to the civil authority. • Experience of major capital projects and their delivery with strongly developed project management skills. • Excellent communication skills with proven experience in managing relationships, with the ability to work effectively, with integrity, within the political process and to recognise and manage different stakeholders’ perspectives. • Proven ability to manage, motivate, develop and lead teams to deliver a quality value for money service within tight deadlines.
