A series of lectures on Coal Mining Geomechanics was recently delivered at the University of Newcastle by Professors Olivier Buzzi and Anna Giacomini, alongside industry professional Alex Duran (PSM), bringing together academic expertise and practical insight. Across the three-day course, the program explored the application of geotechnical engineering to coal mining, combining theory, laboratory understanding and real-world field experience. It brought together a diverse group of practitioners from operations across NSW and QLD. This was a valuable opportunity to support professional development in the industry and connect with peers committed to advancing safe and effective mining practices.
