America turns 250 this year. Munich celebrated properly: McDonald's, Subway, cheesecake, the whole American buffet. Legendary. But that's not why I went. I went because of Dr. James N. Miller, the US Consul General. And here's the thing about him: he shows up. He was there when we marched against antisemitism. He was there when we celebrated the hostages coming home. He was there yesterday, at the very first Jewish Stammtisch at Augustiner. Not for the cameras. Not for the burgers. Just there. It made me think about what it actually means to represent a country. It's not the passport. It's not the flag pin. It's showing up when it's not required, when there's no guaranteed photo op, when it would be easier to send a deputy. Happy 250th, America. And thank you, Dr. Miller, for reminding us that being American, or being anyone, really, is about what you stand for beyond your own borders. 🇺🇸 #Antisemitism #Diplomacy #Munich #USConsulGeneral #JewishCommunity
