In an interview with ZEIT ONLINE, economist Karen Pittel, economic historian Jürgen Renn and Dirk Uwe Sauer, holder of the Chair of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage Systems Technology at RWTH Aachen University and member of the Steering Committee of the #ECPE #ProfileArea, talk about a necessary "new start" with regard to the #Energiewende as an opportunity for the currently constituted federal government.   How do we ensure greater acceptance of the expansion of wind and solar plants in society? How can we avoid surplus capacities of wind power being sold cheaply abroad and make it intelligently usable for our own energy systems? And which energy production options should society build on in the coming years?    Possible answers to these central questions on the global challenge of climate change can be found in the interview as well as in the paper “Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann – wie die Energiewende gelingt“, which the project “Energiesysteme der Zukunft (ESYS)” has just launched as part of an interdisciplinary initiative on behalf of the national science academies Leopoldina, acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften and Akademieunion.
