🧲💪 🧲 New publication in #Small: 🔔Have you ever thought about the individual physical training of the skeletal muscle cells? 🔔 We have done it by manufacturing a dynamic magnetic stimulation platform and magnetically labeling the skeletal muscle cells.🎉 We showed using a Helmholtz coil-based platform and conjugating magnetic microspheres to integrins on myoblasts, we can transform the microspheres into microscale actuators capable of activating force-dependent mechanotransduction pathways under an alternating magnetic field. Interestingly, magnetically labeled cells required only two minutes of stimulation per day to show increased nuclear localization of YAP, together with the upregulation of myogenic genes, confirmed the activation of force-sensitive signaling mechanisms.The study demonstrates an important technology for skeletal muscle biofabrication, disease modelling, and potentially biohybrid robotics. I am very proud of this work which we started in 2022 as the Master’s thesis of Anna-Lena Bauknecht jointly with Andrea O'Connor research group in University of Melbourne. In 2023, Tayná Copes Rodrigues took over and substantially advanced the work, bringing the study to completion. I am especially proud that this is Tayná Copes Rodrigues ’s first paper arising from her PhD thesis. Congratulations to both Tayná Copes Rodrigues and Anna-Lena Bauknecht (equally first author) on this amzing work.
