At just 33 years old, Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta—a testament to his extraordinary academic brilliance, leadership, and visionary intellect. As Independent India’s first Minister for Industry and Supply, he played a pivotal role in laying the bedrock for the nation’s industrial framework. Yet, when his core principles were tested, his integrity never wavered. He famously resigned from the Union Cabinet over profound disagreements regarding the policy on Jammu & Kashmir. He gave the nation a historic, rallying cry for complete integration: "Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Pradhan aur do Nishan nahi chalenge." (One nation cannot have two Constitutions, two Prime Ministers, and two Flags.) Dr. Mookerjee dedicated—and ultimately sacrificed—his life defending India's territorial unity and sovereignty. Decades later, the historic abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 is widely seen by his supporters as the ultimate fulfillment of the sacred vision he championed. On his birth anniversary (6th July), we pay our profound and heartfelt tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee—a stellar educationist, an indomitable statesman, and a fearless patriot whose legacy continues to inspire millions. Salutations to a true son of Mother India. 🙏🇮🇳 Sunil Deodhar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)
