The world just got its first global rulebook for fully driverless vehicles. On 24 June 2026, UNECE's World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) adopted the first-ever international regulatory framework for fully Automated Driving Systems — and it enters into force in about a month. This is not a roadmap or a pilot programme. It's binding regulation, backed by the EU, US, China, Japan, Canada, and the UK. What manufacturers must now demonstrate: - A Safety Management System — audited, lifecycle-wide safety governance - Credible testing — simulation, track, and real-world trials meeting strict criteria - A Safety Case — structured evidence that the ADS poses no unreasonable risk - In-service monitoring — continuous real-world performance reporting - Data storage — onboard recording of safety-relevant ADS data The bar is clear: ADS performance must match or exceed that of a competent human driver. For the automotive industry, this is the moment regulatory uncertainty around autonomous vehicles officially ends — and the compliance work begins. 👉 Follow us to stay up to date on global automotive and product compliance developments. #realpeople #realbusiness #AutonomousVehicles #ADS #UNECE #AutomotiveCompliance #VehicleRegulation #ProductCompliance #EFSConsulting #FutureOfMobility
