Multigenerational teams are already the reality for most organisations. The question is whether employers are managing them by design — or leaving managers to work it out for themselves. New research with Ciphr highlights a clear gap between recognising the value of age-diverse teams and equipping managers to lead them confidently. Employers identified clear benefits: ✅88% cited broader experience ✅81% pointed to better knowledge sharing ✅71% saw improved succession planning ✅69% highlighted stronger problem-solving But the research also found that only 21% of employers reported having age-inclusive recruitment policies, and 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 23% 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔. That matters because many of the challenges organisations identified — communication styles, different expectations of work, career development needs and assumptions about age — show up first in day-to-day management. Age inclusion is not just a policy issue. It is a leadership capability issue. At ProAge, we believe employers need practical, evidence-based support to help people of every age contribute, develop and thrive at work.
