Coronavirus: Here’s what I have learned this week from the latest scientific advances. [1] mRNA #vaccines in clinical trials for #covid19 require cold chain. Pfizer & BioNTech SE's #mRNA vaccine require storage at -70°C & Moderna’s vaccine require storage at -20°C. [2] The main #protease, Mpro (or 3CLpro) in #sars_cov_2 is a viable #drug target, as it is essential for the cleavage of the virus polypeptide. Feline #infectious peritonitis, a fatal #coronavirus #infection in #cats, was successfully treated previously with a prodrug GC376, a dipeptide-based protease #inhibitor. Recent data shows GC373 is effective inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2. [3] #Mink can pass SARS-CoV-2 to #humans. [4] #Antibodies against the new coronavirus endure in the body for four months after infection. [5] People severely ill with COVID-19 are less likely to die if they are given drugs called #corticosteroids than are people who do not receive this treatment. [6] Currently no data from well-controlled, adequately powered randomized #clinicaltrials demonstrate the #efficacy & #safety of #convalescentplasma for the treatment of COVID-19.
