Orthopaedic Surgeon & Clinician Scientist - Heidelberg University Hospital | Hip & Knee Arthroplasty | Cartilage Regeneration | Committee Member AGA & AE
Last week I delivered my inaugural lecture at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University and received the Venia Legendi in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery. Under the title “Kein Knie wie das andere” my lecture explored the conditions and limits of joint-preserving knee surgery, and one conviction: joint preservation and joint replacement are not an either/or, but a continuum. Essentially the same principles and conditions apply across it, and the two fields still have a great deal to learn from one another. That is what makes this specialty for me so compelling. My sincere thanks go to those who shaped this path: My mentors Univ.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Renkawitz and Norbert Weidner, and our medical director Prof. Dr. med. Tilman Walker . Patric Raiss, Univ.- Prof. Dr. med. Tobias Gotterbarm, Prof. Dr. med. Christian Merle, M.Sc., Prof. Dr. med. Babak Moradi and Prof. Burkhard Lehner, who first sparked my enthusiasm for orthopaedics during my early years in the OR as a Student. Thomas Tischer and Philipp Niemeyer for our shared work on data of the German Cartilage Registry (KnorpelRegister DGOU). And last but not least my research group — Kevin-Arno Koch, Dr. med. Mustafa Hariri, Dr. med. Raphael Trefzer, Dr. med. Paul Mick — and my doctoral students. On to the next chapter! #VeniaLegendi #Orthopaedics #KneeSurgery #HeidelbergUniversity
