Planning has a data problem. Not a lack-of-data problem, but a usability problem. Today we’re launching a free-to-access National Place Portrait for England and Wales to help address it. Too much early-stage planning work is still spent stitching together fragmented datasets just to establish a baseline. It’s slow, inconsistent and increasingly unworkable at the scale decisions now demand. The National Place Portrait brings essential datasets into a single interactive view of place conditions across England and Wales, allowing users to move across themes like people, economy, housing and health in one place. And importantly, it is free to access. For public sector teams, it means clearer evidence for policy, investment and stakeholder engagement. For private sector teams, it means faster site understanding and more confident early-stage decision-making. Less time assembling evidence. More time focusing on what matters most: shaping better places. This is the first release from Place+, a new digital placemaking platform from Prior + Partners.
