The TDI – Day of Industry by BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. is one of Europe’s most influential platforms for industrial policy, bringing together political leaders, economic experts, and industry pioneers in Berlin to shape the future of business. At this year's event we actively joined the dialogue to tackle a central question: How can we turn sustainability and circular value creation into a scalable reality for European industry? While the discussions on the main stage focused on the vital balance between acute crisis management and long-term industrial competitiveness, #PreZero contributed to the concurrent expert session to carve out concrete operational solutions. ⚙️ As the new BDI-BCG study highlights, a massive macroeconomic potential of up to €125 billion in annual gross value add is achievable by 2045. However, the current operational reality remains largely linear, with a circular material use rate of 14.5%. Bridging this gap requires addressing practical structural hurdles, such as volatile primary material prices and high domestic energy costs. When critical raw materials face an import dependency of over 99%, circularity functions as a vital strategic risk buffer against geopolitical supply chain disruptions. To keep valuable resources within the European economic loop – aiming to reduce dependencies on critical imports like lithium and cobalt – the focus must shift toward closing the regional "Midstream Gap". Securing these local resource streams and turning them into a predictable market standard requires reliable physical infrastructure, data-driven cross-industry partnerships, and practical framework conditions. Industry needs to join forces to achieve a circular economy as a cornerstone of long-term economic #resilience. 🔄 Schwarz Gruppe #TDI26 #CircularEconomy #ResourceSovereignty #CircularByNature 📷: BDI/Christian Kruppa und Jens Ahner
