"Life is not a sprint, nor is it a marathon. It’s a series of experiments." Listening to Ananth Narayan sir speak at IIM Lucknow is always a masterclass—not just in finance or regulatory frameworks, but in the far more complex art of learning and leading a meaningful life. He moved beyond standard career advice to offer some incredibly deep, grounded insights that forced everyone in the room to pause and re-evaluate their trajectory. Here are the 3 major takeaways that deeply resonated with me on how we should learn and lead our lives: 1. The Myth of the "Perfect Plan" (Embrace Iteration) We often enter premier institutions or jobs with a rigid 10-year blueprint. Ananth Sir beautifully dismantled this pressure. Life is non-linear. Instead of obsessing over a flawless destination, focus on being directionally correct and open to pivots. Success isn't about avoiding failure; it’s about reducing your turnaround time to learn from it. 2. Curiosity over Credentials An MBA or a prestigious title gets you through the door, but continuous, humble curiosity keeps you in the room. He reminded us that the moment you think you are the smartest person in the room, your growth stops. True leadership stems from asking better questions, not just having fast answers. 3. Anchoring Your "Inner Scorecard" In a hyper-competitive world, it’s easy to live by an external scorecard—measured by titles, salaries, and societal validation. But deep fulfillment comes from building an inner scorecard. What are your core values when no one is watching? How do you treat people who can do nothing for you? True leadership is an inside-out job. My favorite quote from the session: "Do not let the noise of other people's successes silence your own inner compass." To my fellow peers and professionals: As we chase our goals, let’s remember to build a life, not just a resume. Thank you, Ananth Narayan sir, for grounding us and reminding us of what truly matters. As advisers and professionals, our ultimate goal shouldn't just be helping clients build a massive balance sheet, but helping them design a life where their wealth truly serves their well-being.
