From 1975 to 1995, the 924, 928, 944 and 968 defined Porsche’s transaxle era, combining front engines, rear-mounted gearboxes and technical innovation. The cars became sales successes as well as motorsport and pop‑culture icons, setting records and appearing in racing, films and notable private collections. The 944 emerged as biggest seller of its time, the 968 as one of Porsche’s rarest production models – and in 1995 the transaxle era came to an end.
