π¨ BREAKING: OpenAI just fired back with the biggest Codex update in the product's history. There is an open war between Anthropic and OpenAI over AI coding tools. Here's the new update: OpenAI just threw everything at Codex. The target? Claude Code. The update gives Codex the ability to run in the background on a user's Mac, operate multiple agents in parallel, open apps, click, and type without interfering with whatever the user is doing in the foreground. It also adds an in-app browser for front-end and game development, a memory feature that recalls previous work sessions, image generation for mockups and product concepts, and 111 plug-in integrations including Slack, Google Calendar, CodeRabbit, and GitLab. A new pay-as-you-go pricing tier was added for enterprise and business ChatGPT customers. Several of the new capabilities directly mirror what Anthropic released for Claude Code last month, including remote Mac control while users are away from their keyboard. TechCrunch reported last week that Claude Code has become the tool of choice for businesses in the AI coding category. OpenAI's response is to make Codex less of a coding assistant and more of a full workflow agent β one that can scan your Slack, read your calendar, generate a to-do list, and execute tasks across apps while you focus on something else. That is a meaningfully different product vision than a better autocomplete. Whether enterprise buyers see it that way β or whether Anthropic's head start in trust and adoption is too big to overcome β is the race that will define the next 12 months of enterprise AI. #claude #openai #anthropic
