I write an education blog, Publicly Cleveland, using public records to show how school districts are spending public money.
Getting public records is what I do. I also write about them on my blog, Publicly Cleveland. On February 9th, I requested the video/audio files recorded by CMSD of the speeches by Pastor RA Vernon. I did this because a number of teachers and students wrote to me to complain about the religious content. The assemblies on February 5th had been mandatory for students. On May 6th CMSD told me that I couldn't have the videos because it would violate FERPA. Weird, since Pastor Vernon and his church have posted them on their Instagram accounts. CMSD closed my request When I pushed back, along with local journalist Ed Gallek, point out that the audio would not violate FERPA, we got the audio files. I have posted them in my blog and you can judge for yourself. https://lnkd.in/em5pRvQF
