Balancing Motherhood and a Career in IT: A Personal Perspective from Alona Skuratovska, Administrative Manager and Mother of two teenagers. 1️⃣ What skill gained through parenthood has made you a better employee? Parenthood has strengthened my resilience and taught me how to stay calm in any situation. It has also given me a true sense of “real-time” time management. Raising two teenagers with different schedules naturally trains you to switch quickly between tasks and prioritize effectively. This ability has proven invaluable at work, especially when things don’t go according to plan. 2️⃣ What challenges have you faced as a working mother, and how have you overcome them? The biggest challenge is managing everything and maintaining a healthy balance between work and family life, particularly when children need attention during busy work periods. What helps me is sharing responsibilities with my husband, as well as encouraging my children to take part in household tasks. This teamwork makes a significant difference. 3️⃣ How do your children perceive your work? Are they interested in technology? My children respect what I do and understand that my work is an important part of my life. My older son is interested in technology and modern processes, while my younger daughter is curious about my work and dreams of becoming a graphic designer. They both see that a career in IT can be engaging and fulfilling. 4️⃣ What advice would you give to women in IT who are planning to become mothers? I would encourage women not to postpone motherhood or fear change. A career and motherhood can successfully go hand in hand when priorities are clear. The skills developed through parenting – patience, multitasking, and organization – are incredibly valuable in any professional setting. Becoming a mother doesn’t limit your career; it enhances it with new perspectives and strengths. 5️⃣ What workplace changes would better support mothers? Flexible working hours and the option to work remotely can make a significant difference. Equally important is a supportive environment where colleagues and leadership understand that mothers can be highly effective professionals, even if they occasionally need to step away to care for their children. 6️⃣ What does Mother’s Day mean to you personally? For me, Mother’s Day is a moment of gratitude – not only toward my children but also toward myself. It’s a reminder that balancing multiple roles is an achievement in itself. Being a good mother is not about perfection; it’s about being a happy, fulfilled, and present person. #MothersDay #WomenInTech #WorkLifeBalance #EmployeeStories #TechLeadership #EnterpriseSoftware #Mainframe #zOS
