The Lyric Theatre project in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon District is under construction, and one of the key phases currently taking place is fabrication of exterior metal panel cladding.🏗️ As part of this process, the client and design team travelled to Germany to personally review and hand-select individual colored stainless-steel sheets for the facade. The POHL Charcoal Matt Cloudy finish specified for the exterior facade lends each sheet its own unique character, making material selection an important part of the design process. The stainless steel is colored using an interference coloring process to achieve the Charcoal Matt finish, and a bespoke artesian cloudy pattern, creating a naturally irregular surface with subtle variations throughout. As a result, no two sheets are exactly alike. Rather than treating these variations as something to be controlled, they become part of the architectural expression. Every panel is carefully evaluated for its character, appearance, and suitability within the overall composition, allowing the architect to curate the final facade sheet by sheet. 💡 The POHL Charcoal Matt is an ultra-durable and maintenance free stainless steel for any architectural application.
