Today we officially opened Australia’s first mine-site lithium mid-stream processing facility at our Pilgangoora Operation, with WA Premier Hon Roger Cook MLA cutting the ribbon alongside Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) Chair Justin Punch 🎉 The Mid-Stream Demonstration Plant Project uses electric calcination in a world-first application for primary lithium processing, converting spodumene concentrate produced at Pilgangoora into lithium phosphate, an intermediate product used in the production of lithium-ion batteries 🔋 This is a significant step in our strategy to capture more value from Australia's lithium resources by processing more material here rather than exporting it. Producing a higher-value product on site reduces the volume of material shipped overseas and supports more jobs, investment and industry development in WA. When powered by renewables, the technology has the potential to reduce the emissions intensity of lithium processing compared to traditional methods. The plant now moves into commissioning and operational validation, with first product expected in the September Quarter 2026.
