Chicago, your city needs you. According to science, you need us too. Nearly one in three Americans report feeling lonely every week, and trust in our communities has hit record lows. But research from UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center points to a powerful antidote: volunteering. People who volunteer experience higher life satisfaction, lower loneliness, and stronger social ties. At Plate and Pathways, we're fighting to protect our neighbors and ensure better food security in Chicago. We provide nutritional education to low-income families and serve healthy meals to our unhoused neighbors, so that no resident of Rogers Park faces food insecurity alone. Every day, we see how access to healthy food — and the dignity of a warm meal — can change a life. But we can't do it without you. More than 90 percent of Americans say they want to volunteer, but only about one in four actually do. We get it. Chicago professionals are busy, and our lives feel more fragmented than ever. That's why we offer regular, flexible opportunities designed to fit real lives, not the other way around. We're especially looking for people connected to the food world — chefs, distributors, nutritionists, grocery and restaurant professionals — because your expertise directly amplifies our mission. But we also need marketers, operations folks, and community connectors. If you have a skill (which, if you’re active on LinkedIn, I’m certain you do) we have a place for you. Volunteering with us isn't a one-time checkbox. It's a chance to build something real alongside people who care about our city as much as you do. Ready to show up for your neighbors?
