When conversations turn to urban heat, the solutions often sound complicated, expensive, or years away. But Medellín, Colombia, proves that sometimes the most effective climate solutions are also the simplest. Through its Green Corridors program, the city transformed 30 roadways and 18 waterways into thriving green spaces, adding more than 880,000 trees and 2.5 million plants across 65 hectares of urban greenery. The results speak for themselves: 🌳Average temperatures dropped by 2°C 🌳Air quality improved significantly 🌳Respiratory illnesses declined 🌳Bicycle use increased by 35% At a time when cities around the world are searching for new climate solutions, Medellín reminds us that one of the most powerful tools has been here all along: Nature isn't separate from infrastructure. Nature is infrastructure. The next time the summer heat feels unbearable, remember that resilience doesn't always come from building more. Sometimes it comes from restoring what was already there.
