This year Trees & Seas film festival arrived to Guatemala for the first time, thanks to Futuro Verde and CFCE Antigua! From Guatemala City to the historic streets of Antigua, this local festival brought together over 200 participants who not only watched but truly engaged. Not even rain stopped the conversations, it just moved them to the hallway. What we learned: The most recurring and significant concerns raised by the audience are centered on the lack of government/authority action and regulation regarding environmental issues, and a general deficit of environmental education and awareness within Guatemala, from schools to local communities and municipal leaders. But a true highlight was that attendees truly appreciated the creation of a dedicated space for environmental film and discussion, given such events are rare in Guatemala. Films screened: - El Pulmo - The Inga Tree Model | Inga Foundation - Clean Up Sayu | Greer Fawcett - Portrait of a Ranger | AFTER95 Creative - The Illusion of Abundance - Territorio Puloui | Carmela Daza Each story opened a window into urgent environmental realities, and the audience responded with passion, curiosity, and resilience. In Guatemala, people gathered for an unforgettable night of films and dialogue. This is just the beginning, together, we’re building spaces for environmental awareness, resilience, and action
