Meet Ayse Kotil, Team Lead for Gate-Based Quantum Optimization at planqc.   Ayse works at the intersection of quantum algorithms, software, and research tailored to the characteristics of our hardware. In the interview, she gives a behind-the-scenes look at what that means in practice: leading a team focused on quantum solutions for optimization problems, coordinating industry projects with external partners, and helping shape a full-stack solution library for challenging real-world applications.   She also shares her path into science and innovation: studying computer science at the Technical University of Munich, discovering quantum computing in a lecture, and deciding early on that she wanted to be at the forefront of this field. What stands out is her perspective on confidence and growth in a still male-dominated environment – showing up, putting in the work, and learning over time to trust your own progress. Her advice to young women in science and technology is both thoughtful and encouraging: be patient with yourself, enjoy new beginnings, and do not underestimate how far your passion and persistence can take you. One highlight from her journey so far has been speaking to very different audiences about quantum computing – from lectures to introductory talks – and seeing how much fascination and enthusiasm the field can spark, regardless of age or background.
