Pixel Photonics has been selected Top 3 for the Deutscher Gründerpreis 2026 in the “Aufsteiger” category. What started as a scientific question in academic research has grown into a company dedicated to solving one of the key bottlenecks in quantum and photonic systems: scalable single-photon detection. Our journey began with pioneering research on waveguide-integrated single-photon detectors. At some point, it became clear that this technology should not remain confined to the lab. We made the decision to take on the challenge of industrialization and turn a scientific breakthrough into a scalable technology platform. Today, our ARCTIC® technology enables high-performance photon detection for quantum technologies and beyond. Our systems are already being used by customers in research and industry, while we continue to work towards integrating photon detection directly into the photonic chips that will power the next generation of quantum computers, quantum networks, sensing systems, and other advanced applications. Being named Top 3 for the Deutscher Gründerpreis is a meaningful recognition of the work, dedication, and persistence of our entire team. It reflects not only technological innovation, but also the commitment required to bridge the gap between research and industrial deployment.
