AI and humans are not competing. They are evolving together, but in phases. In my recent work, I break AI–human collaboration into three waves: 1. Augmentation (Now) We are using AI to accelerate tasks, improve efficiency, and enhance decision-making. This phase is already here and will continue to expand. 2. Autonomy (Next) AI begins to make decisions independently. Humans shift from operators to observers, stepping in only when needed. But this raises a critical question—what role do we play when machines start deciding? 3. Integration (Future) AI becomes deeply embedded in systems and society. At scale, this could entirely reshape the role of human contribution. The real concern is not AI itself. It’s the gradual transfer of control, one click, one decision at a time. If we don’t define how we collaborate with AI, we risk losing ownership of our own direction. This is not just a technology conversation. It’s a leadership responsibility.
