One of the best hire we made recently? Someone our own team already knew and trusted. We want to tell you about Erik Sicking and Kayra Spancken. Their story starts three years ago, takes a detour through Italy, and ends with both of them on the same Picnic team, building exactly the careers they came here for. Erik came to Picnic looking for something different. He had spent three years at a large retail company - solid experience, great grounding - but he wanted the scale-up pace. The ownership. The kind of environment where you can actually see your impact. He joined as a Working Student in Controlling, went full time in October 2025. What Erik also brought with him was a connection that would matter later: he and Kayra had been colleagues at that previous company. Same team. Same start date. Three years building trust together. When a Working Student opening came up in Accounting, he picked up the phone. Kayra was back from Erasmus in Italy, ready to move. She built the knowledge she needed, proved herself on the team, and when a full-time position opened up in Controlling, a move made complete sense. The team, the role, the timing, all of it landed.
