🌎 Can groundwater provide an early warning of seismic activity? In our latest Spotlight, Picarro’s Russ Chedgy, Ph.D. highlights work from Yuxuan Chen and colleagues at the Beijing Earthquake Agency. They found that changes in groundwater isotope signatures appeared up to three months before clusters of small earthquakes in northern Beijing. Using the Picarro L2130-i Isotope and Gas Concentration Analyzer, the team captured high-frequency measurements of hydrogen (δ²H) and oxygen (δ¹⁸O) isotopes, revealing statistically significant pre-seismic patterns linked to tectonic stress and groundwater movement. The findings demonstrate how trusted isotope measurements can uncover subtle subsurface changes that may help advance earthquake monitoring and prediction research. 📖 Read the blog https://hubs.la/Q04mKNMj0 👉Explore our Research Center https://hubs.la/Q04mLMSq0 🌊Learn about the L2130-i Water Isotope Analyzer https://hubs.la/Q04mKWjR0 #WaterIsotopes #Geochemistry #EarthquakeResearch #Hydrology
