Two Inspiring Days of Mechatronics and Technical Exchange at PI Karlsruhe   At the 2026 PI Symposium on Mechatronics System Design, around 95 participants came together to discuss current research, development approaches, and solution-oriented responses to application-driven challenges in high-precision motion and positioning. The symposium provided an internal forum for PI teams worldwide and strengthened the technical dialogue between industry and the research community through guest contributions from ACS Motion Control, Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, Delft University of Technology, IMMS Ilmenau, and the JKU HOERBIGER Research Institute for Smart Actuators at Johannes Kepler University Linz. Keynotes by Dr. Florian Poltschak from the HOERBIGER Research Institute and Dr. Ludwig Herzog from IMMS Ilmenau offered valuable insights into linear motors, wear, error budgeting, and accuracy in long-range nanopositioning systems. To make the knowledge shared at the symposium accessible beyond the event, a conference proceedings volume is currently in preparation. Special thanks to Dr. Christian Rudolf, Director Technology Center Drives & Systems at PI, for organizing and moderating the event, as well as to all speakers, presenters, participants, and organizers who made the symposium a valuable platform for technical collaboration. #Mechatronics #PrecisionEngineering #MotionControl #Nanopositioning #PhysikInstrumente
