Disrupting both ROS-producing RBOH genes in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha caused severe growth inhibition and a failure to form organized tissues, leaving a slowly growing, disorganized cell mass. Single-gene mutants also grew abnormally. Chemical ROS removal produced similar defects, while gene-expression data linked ROS to differentiation-related regulation.
