There's a ๐ฆ๐š๐ฃ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐›๐ฅ๐ž๐ฆ with this infamous Ben's Gutters leaflet. I got mine yesterday. At first glance, it's effective. Looks genuinely handwritten and sweet. Personal mobile number. Smiley face. There's evidence that handwritten notes boost response ratesยน and can 2x salesยฒ. I'm sure that's why Ben's Gutters created it. But there's a problem. At the bottom it reads: "๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜œ๐˜’'๐˜ด ๐˜ฃ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐˜จ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜ค๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฑ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜บ" Would the biggest in the industry ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’๐’๐’š have time to handwrite these letters? Apparently not... it seems everyone in the country has received the exact same note: https://lnkd.in/eQVi2iwN It's not handwritten; ๐ข๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐. People in Newcastle, Norwich and Newbury get identical versions. Which defeats the point. Because the leaflet claimsย "๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ค๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜จ๐˜ถ๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ด ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐’š๐’๐’–๐’“ ๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ข". But this is a nationwide campaign, so I'm 99% certain it's BS. I'm sure this leaflet is incredibly effective for Ben, but by focusing on scale over efficacy, I think their deceit will piss off a decent chunk of recipients. --- ๐Ÿ“ง I send a newsletter with marketing psychology tips like this to 10,832 readers each Friday.
