*The biggest misconception is that expertise is the goal. In reality, it’s only the entry ticket.* This week, I had the opportunity to learn from the World Latte Art Champion - Christian Ullrich! What struck me most wasn’t the technique. It was the realization of how many years of deliberate practice, feedback, and continuous improvement stand behind a skill that appears effortless to everyone else. The same observation applies to leadership, strategy, and commercialization. Excellence often looks simple. But behind that simplicity are countless hours spent refining the small details, over and over again. The more experienced I become, the more I appreciate that outstanding performance is rarely about doing something completely different. It’s about doing the fundamentals exceptionally well, consistently, over time. What is one skill or capability you underestimated earlier in your career but see very differently today?
