A great chapter came to it's finale Looking back on four years as 🇦🇹 Employment Attaché at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU. What a ride. 🐎 Since early 2022, I had the privilege of serving as Austria’s representative on a wide range of employment and social policy files in the Council of the EU 🇪🇺 . Now it's time to move to the next chapter, again Brussels-based, soon to be revealed. But for now, let's look back for a moment. Representing my country as an impartial delegate in a highly political environment was a great responsibility and a real honour. The job was never only about defending a national position. It was about judgment: When to push. When to build alliances. When to hold the line. When to help shape compromise. It was about bringing Austrian priorities into European negotiations while knowing that durable outcomes in Brussels depend on preparation, credibility and trust. What I will take with me above all is how much one can learn in the Council from the different approaches of the Member States. Every delegation brings its own political realities, institutional culture and negotiating instincts to the table. Working through those differences is one of the best schools of European policymaking. These years also reminded me how much broad experience matters. • Journalism and communications helped me turn complexity into clarity • Political advisory work taught me to read the broader context behind technical debates • Advocacy and public affairs sharpened my instinct for stakeholder interests, institutional dynamics and bridge-building And beyond the work, there were the people. Colleagues, counterparts and partners became trusted companions and often true friends. There were intense negotiations, long evenings, memorable trips and many moments that made this chapter special far beyond the dossiers. 🤝 A special thanks goes to "my" two DPRs: Gregor Schusterschitz and Franz Wirtenberger. Followed by, just to mention a few, Claus Binder, Viktor Szontagh, Vinzent Rest, Sonia Niżnik, Constanze Arming, Anna-Sophie Ecker, Martina S., Elona Kamberi, Matthias Mitscha-Märheim, Andreas Moser, Severin Gruber, Florian Pecenka, Cornelia Schuster, Agnes Koreska, Lisa-Maria Neußl, Agnes Winkelmaier, Olimpia Caetani, Karoly Varga, Lone Henriksen, Edyta Czarnocka, Valery Bode, Justina Lukaševičiūtė, Esben Asmussen, Margriet Visser, Mihail Iliev, Max Uebe, Francesco Corti, Jonathan Stabenow, Chiara Riondino, Delphine Schlim, Karolina Schlyter, Doris Dialer, Petra Silovská, Kestutis Zaura, Kati Keel, Christa Kammerhofer, Simon Prammer, Yana Giovanis and so many more. Somewhere along the way, almost on the side, I also completed my Executive Master at CIFE - Centre international de formation européenne. A demanding and rewarding parallel journey. 📚 I am leaving this chapter with gratitude and with many lessons learned. So long, and thanks for all the fish 🐟 On to new shores. 🌍
