The media would have you believe that there is no future in pubs... Adam Atkinson, owner of the Wenlock Arms, Wheldrake proves that this is just wrong. Of course it isn't easy with rising costs, recruitment challenges, and economic uncertainty but it can be done if..... - You learn your craft and keep working on your skills - You work hard - You surround yourself with people who "get you" and will help you succeed - You are prepared to ask for help - You actively look at ways of collaborating and building partnerships - You keep an eye on the numbers - You build a team that is engaged and effective - You work hard on ensuring your guests love what you do - You invest - You keep it simple If you don't do these things then yes, the future is bleak. However, Adam Atkinson and his partner Josie do all these things and it gives me great pride to see them grow into being brilliant business owners. Proud that Adam was on the very first cohort of The Hospitality Junior Board C.I.C And they are under 30…..
