This summer, I got a front row seat to the bridge between healthcare and healthtech. Turns out, it’s a bridge I want to keep walking. Going into my summer marketing internship at PediaMetrix, I thought I’d mainly be focusing on content creation for social media—an overarching task that already linked to my interest in how digital tools can be embedded in healthcare. What I didn’t expect was just how much adaptation lies at the root of collaborating to build a smooth pipeline for a medically regulated product. While having the wonderful chance to train four students and support patients at the clinic part-time, I simultaneously took part in thoughtful projects at PediaMetrix that challenged and inspired me. Here are a few highlights: - Produced over 10 pieces of social media content via Meta, including reels, educational carousels, and animations showcasing SoftSpot™, contributing to a +559% increase in account reach and +92% boost in profile activity since the start of the internship. - Launched a targeted B2B and B2C collaborator campaign via Meta, expanding reach and engagement with key stakeholders. - Designed branded collateral and packaging concepts for SoftSpot™, including three campaign thank-you cards currently included in kit shipments, and preliminary redesigns for an elevated packaging style in preparation for the upcoming Amazon store launch. - Created a comprehensive user manual and assisted with photo editing for email campaigns, simplifying product usage for end users while supporting marketing communications. This summer has been an absolute whirlwind, and I’m so grateful for the chance to work in both marketing and design as well as direct patient care. Marketing has always let me explore the psychology behind consumer behavior, and having the opportunity to engage in both PediaMetrix projects and in-person clinic work has been a reassuring reminder of the authenticity and value behind this dual path. Seeing how health communication and patient care blend so naturally has offered perspective on how both can coexist in my future practice as a healthcare professional, with opportunities in healthtech marketing complementing that path. With this internship season coming to a close, I want to thank Dr. Reza Seifabadi, PhD and Mehrab A. for their valuable mentorship, and Sepehr Shirazi, Can Kocabalkanli, and Bo Wu for being such genuinely caring team members I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside. For now, this isn’t a goodbye quite yet—I’m happy to share that I’ll be continuing as a marketing intern with PediaMetrix during the fall semester through the Maryland Technology Internship Program, and I’m excited to continue the journey, exploring new ways to connect patients, parents, clinicians, and healthcare technology.
