One of the biggest leadership mistakes in Medical Affairs is judging the role by a single successful field day. When a manager shadows an MSL, they often experience a carefully orchestrated schedule with productive clinician meetings and seamless introductions. What they don't always see are the weeks or months of relationship building, scheduling, follow-up, and persistence that made those interactions possible. The most effective leaders approach these experiences with curiosity instead of assumptions. Rather than concluding, "This job is easier than I thought," they ask: "What did it take to create this day?" That simple question leads to better coaching, more realistic expectations, stronger trust, and ultimately higher-performing MSL teams. Empathy isn't just a leadership trait. It's a competitive advantage. How do you help leaders better understand the realities of field medical work? Check out this great advice from Jonas Hylton and Michael Pietrack. #MedicalAffairs #MSL #MedicalScienceLiaison #Leadership #PharmaceuticalIndustry #Biotech #HealthcareLeadership #LifeSciences
