As a physicist from CEPLANT and Department of Plasma Physics and Technology , I thought I would finally get some proper rest in Leiden. That didn't quite work out. The city keeps reminding me of physics: Pieter van Musschenbroek and the Leyden jar, Christiaan Huygens, who studied here, Hendrik Lorentz, whom Albert Einstein regularly visited to discuss physics. At the birthplace of Johannes Diderik van der Waals, my thoughts turned to the microscopic world, while the world's oldest university observatory reminded me of Willem de Sitter and the expanding Universe. Even in the botanical garden, I checked whether they also have Victoria amazonica like in our Přírodovědecká fakulta MU. And in a cheese shop, I caught myself wondering how many different ways ten cheeses could be arranged into a tasting sequence. Now I'm beginning to wonder… am I really on vacation, or is this actually a business trip?Maybe Masaryk University should reimburse my travel expenses. 😄
