We still need 'middle managers'! As we continue to delve into the evolving role of middle management we are discovering more and more reasons why there is a growing need for making connections, facilitating change and providing a human centred culture. This is a very different role to the traditional 'controlling' activities in the hierarchy and it needs a new breed of manager capable of managing relationships, learning and culture. As AI takes over the admin it exposes the gap in managing human beings. Trusting, empowering, encouraging and coaching are things people do a lot better than computers. Making sense of a rapidly changing, complex world needs managers who can exercise human judgement and react to human behaviour. They all agree that the role has to evolve with organisational change and the growing use of AI, but there is still a real need for empathy, appreciation and inspiration from a real human being.
