Legendary Ancient Parisian Very privileged to meet up with the oldest tree in Paris over the weekend. This robinia pseudoacacia (False acacia) was planted in 1601, in Square René Viviani within sight of Notre Dame in the 5th arrondissement. Introduced from North America by Parisian botanist Jean Robin, it seems to be thriving in the recent record heatwave. Surrounded by new root sucker growth, many trees have the innate ability to be very old and young at the same time. Some careful management has been required to prevent complete failure of the hollow stem. Enabling the myriads of irreplaceable habitat features, including nesting interstices (which I saw being used), to perpetuate for future generations. An irreplaceable historic, cultural and natural monument as valuable as any building. #slrconsulting #irreplaceablehabitat #arboriculture #BNG #climatechange #treecology #trees #ancienttrees
