Rugby Union Photographs from the last two decades of the 20th Century

Back in the day (1993); the mighty ‘All Whites’ take on the touring Barbarians   During the Covid times of 2020 I stopped photographing conferences (there weren’t any) and returned to my Fleet Street Rugby Photographer roots. I am on a mission to scan, edit and caption twenty years of great rugby (1980-2000), new photos every week. Follow me in my journey of rediscovery   12/04/1993  Swansea v Barbarians This is a bit of a nostalgia trip for me. It was a photo from this match is the one that probably enabled the whole ‘From he Back of as Motorbike’ archive to be created and made it a real thing rather than a thought in my head.   It was one of these photos, the one of Harvey Thorneycroft breaking through the Swansea defence leaving tacklers in his wake and going on to score a try (I think). Harvey saw the photo on my LinkedIn account, phoned me, and from there started a friendship which resulted in the Northampton Photo album (and later book) which was presented to Keith Barwell.   I loved photographing Barbarian Games, they were quintessentially what rugby was about for me and I photographed their games whenever I could, even if I did not actually have a commission, or the ability to get a photo to any newspaper.   I hope you enjoy the photos.   If you follow my LinkedIn hashtag at #FBMrugbyphotos you can keep up to date with my rugby photographs from ‘Back in the day’, as I scan, edit and caption them.    #rugby #networking  #business follow #FBMrugbyphotos Photos ©1993 Pete Jenkins – From the Back of a Motorbike – 12/04/1993  Swansea v Barbarians
