Another take from my Musk vs. EU discussion on Serbian Broadcasting Corporation. This time, we are zooming out on the tension between the two ways of thinking about innovation vs. regulation. In the US narrative, EU regulations are framed as an attack on free speech 🗣️ In the EU narrative, regulation is about containing disinformation and hate 🛡️ Not to be a fence-sitter, but I believe the truth is somewhere in the middle. Trump’s return to the political stage reshuffled Euro-Atlantic dynamics. Musk also had direct influence within the US government. Both have been vocal (to put it mildly) about their opposition to tech regulation. Basically: 🇺🇸 The US is rushing to innovate, racing China at full speed. 🇪🇺 The EU is adding layers of regulation to keep pace with evolving technology. Worldwide, we see criticism towards the EU for moving slowly and cautiously at a moment when the fight for AI investment is existential 🤖 That caution comes at a cost: missed opportunities, capital flowing elsewhere, talent following. So what does this mean for business leaders? This debate shapes where capital flows, where companies choose to build, how quickly products can ship, and what rulebooks you have to master if you want to go international. So #TLDR: Stay up to date, because whichever way we tip the scale, it WILL affect how we build and grow.
