This is what real work inside prison looks like. At HMP Millsike, men are producing around 1,000 garments a week to a commercial standard - products that go straight into a live supply chain. A millimetre either way is the difference between getting it right and having to start again, so the learning stage becomes a balance between confidence and control. For men building their experience, staying engaged is a huge part of making it work. From early Social Recruitment Advocacy Group (SRAG) conversations, to establishing partnerships and planning the process, to the rhythm of the workshop (morning sessions, brew breaks, swapping roles, building trust) - this is what happens when the purpose of the work is understood and carried through properly.
