A practical takeaway from last week’s Social Recruitment Advocacy Group Lunch and Learn session with Action Deafness. In hot desking environments, you don’t always control where you sit. For Deaf and Hard of Hearing colleagues, that can make it harder to pick up on what’s happening around them, requiring more vigilance than should be necessary. A simple mirror added to a monitor helps people see movement, notice when someone is speaking, and stay relaxed and focused. No redesign. A small adjustment that can immediately make work more accessible. We’ve shared the numbers before, but they matter. Around 12 million people in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss, including 5 million of working age. This is a mainstream workforce reality. The persistence of the gap suggests we’re still not getting this right when it comes to including Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in our teams. Our next SRAG Lunch and Learn is in mid-May, with Angela Halliday from Sodexo UK and Ireland. Sodexo UK and Ireland is one of SRAG’s most advanced Charter Mark members - so expect practical insight into how social value is delivered in real settings, at scale, brought to life in Angela’s grounded and engaging style.
