Academic freedom is not a given; it is something we must actively protect. This March, the Pembroke College community raised over £126,000 to provide sanctuary for an academic at-risk. This milestone ensures we can welcome our fifth Cara (The Council for At-Risk Academics) scholar and their family this coming academic year. Current CARA scholar Dr Oksana Starshova highlighted the impact of the sanctuary offered by Pembroke, noting the importance of the "help and encouragement" she has received from the Pembroke community during her transition. This support ensures that Pembroke remains what our Master, Professor Rosalind Polly Blakesley, calls a "safe harbour"—a place where brilliant researchers facing unthinkable circumstances can truly thrive. A sincere thank you to our 330+ donors, our students, and our alumni ambassadors for helping us protect the freedom to think, teach, and create. This achievement is a testament to the power of our global community. #PemGives #PembrokeCollegeCambridge #UniversityOfCambridge
