Market Leader Portugal (independent contractor)
After ten years, the time has come to say farewell to Lombard International Assurance (now Utmost Luxembourg). What an extraordinary journey this has been. Looking back, it is hard to believe how quickly a decade has passed since I took on the challenge of developing almost from scratch a very young Portuguese market, despite limited prior experience in unit-linked life insurance and international banking. I remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and for the opportunity to contribute to the growth of one of Luxembourg’s leading insurers. Making the move from traditional local private banking to an independent, remote, and highly results-driven model was, at the time, a significant leap of faith—particularly with a young family at home (all the credits to my amazing wife who always stood by when I was frequently travelling abroad). Thanks to the consistent support of the Luxembourg teams, the leadership, and the welcoming culture at Head Office, those initial uncertainties were gradually transformed into confidence, achievement, and lasting professional relationships. Over the years, I had the privilege of experiencing a strong spirit of partnership, camaraderie, and mutual support, alongside many professional milestones and some personal challenges that shaped this journey in unexpected ways. I am sincerely thankful to everyone who crossed my path, including my fellow competitors who helped putting Portugal on the map, and especially to all the banking and non-banking partners who contributed to making these years so meaningful. I step away with a strong sense of accomplishment, leaving behind a mature, consolidated, and well-established Portuguese market firmly positioned for continued success. As one-chapter closes, another will soon begin. I remain convinced that dreaming boldly and pursuing those dreams is always worth the effort. Grateful for the past, proud of what we built together, and looking forward to what lies ahead. “Once a lion, always a lion”.
