📢 New publication! I'm pleased to share our latest paper published in Frontiers in Medicine: "Current practices in the diagnosis and management of HSV and CMV reactivation in German ICUs: an exploratory web-based survey" HSV and CMV reactivation are frequently encountered in critically ill patients, yet many important clinical questions remain unanswered. In our nationwide survey among German ICUs, we found: 🔹 Considerable variability in diagnostic strategies 🔹 Major differences in antiviral treatment approaches 🔹 Limited availability of standardized SOPs, particularly for non-immunocompromised ICU patients 🔹 Persistent uncertainty regarding when viral detection represents clinically relevant disease rather than an epiphenomenon of critical illness Our findings highlight the urgent need for prospective clinical trials and evidence-based recommendations to guide decision-making in this challenging field. Ich freue mich, unsere aktuelle Arbeit in Frontiers in Medicine vorstellen zu können: „Current practices in the diagnosis and management of HSV and CMV reactivation in German ICUs: an exploratory web-based survey.“ HSV- und CMV-Reaktivierungen werden auf Intensivstationen regelmäßig beobachtet. Dennoch bestehen weiterhin erhebliche Unsicherheiten hinsichtlich Diagnostik und Therapie. In unserer bundesweiten Umfrage unter deutschen Intensivstationen konnten wir zeigen: 🔹 deutliche Unterschiede in den diagnostischen Strategien 🔹 große Variabilität beim Einsatz antiviraler Therapien 🔹 nur wenige standardisierte SOPs – insbesondere für nicht immunsupprimierte Intensivpatienten 🔹 einen hohen Bedarf an evidenzbasierten Handlungsempfehlungen Unsere Ergebnisse verdeutlichen, dass dringend prospektive Studien benötigt werden, um den klinischen Stellenwert von HSV- und CMV-Reaktivierungen besser einzuordnen und fundierte Therapieempfehlungen zu entwickeln.
