A significant step forward for autonomous mobility in Europe. On 8th June, 18 Member States signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on large-scale cross-border testbeds for autonomous vehicles during the Transport Council meeting in Luxembourg, in the presence of Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas. The Declaration demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) through greater cooperation on interoperability, regulatory approaches, approval procedures and coordinated cross-border deployment activities. For the autonomous mobility ecosystem, this is an important signal. Harmonised approaches across Europe can help accelerate testing, deployment and innovation, while providing greater clarity and predictability for stakeholders working to bring these technologies to the public. At PAVE Europe, we welcome initiatives that support the safe, transparent and responsible deployment of automated mobility solutions. Collaboration between policymakers, industry, researchers and civil society will be essential to unlocking the benefits of autonomous mobility for communities across Europe.
