If you think autonomous trucking is still a future concept, think again. In a new article for The The Wall Street Journal, reporter Esther Fung highlights how PepsiCo has deployed dozens of fully driverless trucks across Arizona, Texas, and Arkansas, delivering products between manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and retail locations. The fleet, developed with autonomous trucking company Gatik, is reportedly operating without safety drivers and achieving a 99% on-time delivery rate. For those of us in aviation, ground support, and logistics, this isn't just a trucking story. It's another example of how automation, data, and operational efficiency continue to reshape transportation networks. Whether it's autonomous trucks on highways, advanced telematics in ground support equipment, or AI-driven maintenance planning, the common theme is clear: operators are looking for ways to improve reliability, increase asset utilization, and address workforce challenges while maintaining safety. The technology may still be in its early stages, but the conversation has clearly shifted from "if" to "how fast." An interesting read from The Wall Street Journal and Esther Fung on where logistics is heading next.
