SoftBank is about to spend 75 billion euros on AI infrastructure in France. Finally, a physical bet on where the next operating system for the economy will live. It is about time, France, com’on Europe, don’t let another opportunity slip through your fingers. France was ahead of the world in IT once. Minitel gave the French networked services a full decade before the Internet. The internet arrived anyway, and France ended up watching from the sidelines, convinced it had better technology while the architecture got built elsewhere. Whether French and European leaders fully understand what is happening is almost beside the point. Infrastructure doesn't wait for strategy to catch up.
